Why all these places all over the USA?
So here is the reason for the road trip down to Texas!
Olivia and Claire!
They are my granddaughters and they live with my son and his wife in Austin Texas. We had been talking about a trip down to see them through this last spring. Olivia was born in April and I had not met her in person yet. And another, maybe the most important of all, is that I would get the joy and honor of baptizing Olivia as I had her sister (remember that my full time day job is an LCMS pastor).
I also simply needed to take a vacation - it had been a very busy spring. Easter and confirmation were completed and it was time.
Margery could only take 4 days off (including Memorial Day) so I opted to drive down to Texas flying my drone and finding interesting sites along the way. I dropped her off at MSP Terminal 1 early on a Monday, and she flew to one of her work offices. I started driving to Texas. I picked her up on Thursday evening in Austin Texas and we enjoyed a long weekend with the granddaughters (and their parents). Tuesday morning I drove Margery to the Austin Airport where she would fly to an office for the week and I then headed north to Minnesota. After another week of exploring I picked Margery up on Thursday evening in Minneapolis - home!

We had a great visit in Texas. Having Claire recognize me and yell “Grandpa” is a moment I won’t ever forget. And meeting, holding and then baptizing Olivia was a very special memory - that will last into eternity! We were also able to celebrate Claire’s 3rd birthday with her.
I had never driven through this part of the USA before. Planning, driving, getting off the main roads and exploring was a lot more fun than I anticipated. I also loved having the excuse to fly the drone every day. This trip became a sort of trial run for another trip I would take a couple of weeks later - to see my Dad in Montana. Those trip pictures are coming also!
