Turkey/Greece Trip - May 27, 2025 - Mar's Hill in Athens

“Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and devout persons, and in the marketplace every day…they took him and brought him to the Areopagus”. Acts 17: 16, 17

Last night we had a lovely final evening in Istanbul.  Belgin and Ohnurhan took our group to Taksim Square.  We had a last Turkish Pide - best yet - at a place Belgin took us to- then packed up for the flight to Athens today.

We are staying very near the Athens acropolis and the famous Plaka neighborhood.  We had enough time after travel to visit Mars hill and study from the section in Acts 17 that records Paul’s time in Athens.  Mars Hill is a large marble outcropping near the acropolis.  It is also referred to as the Areopagus which is a legal / counsel institution that goes back as early as the 5th c BC in Athens.  Tradition has it that trials were held on by this body on Mars Hill and that Paul spoke to the Areopagus at this site.

We also reunited with our dear friend Beni today!!  He came to Athens from Israel to spend a few days visiting our leader Jim, Begin our guide and us.

Tomorrow we will see other archeological sites in Athens, the archeological museum, and free time for the shoppers among us :).
