Turkey/Greece Trip May 23 -

The entire day was spent in Ephesus and in discussions of Paul’s extended time here and of the Apostle John who lived the last days of his life in Ephesus.

More restorations and excavations have been done since our visit 2 years ago.  It appears that the area around St Mary’s Basilica at Ephesus is being prepared for restorations of a large harbor bath complex. We were able to find a couple of graffiti inscriptions that we’d heard about but hadn’t seen before - a menorrah, a graffiti of a statue of Hekate (Hecate) carved on the wall inside the western archway of the Gate of Mazeus and Mithridates, and a Christian symbol:  Greek letters for “fish” that also form an acronym for “Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior “ next to a wheel formed by placing all the Greek letters on top of each other.

Early back to the hotel this afternoon to enjoy the Aegean Sea in front of our hotel (and a nap if we’re honest) On the bus by 4 am tomorrow to catch a ferry to the island of Samos then a hydrofoil to Patmos for the day. Have a blessed evening!  PB, Margery and Jacob
