Anthony Chapel - Some say it’s the most beautiful chapel in all of the USA!
At the tail end of a short paved path sticking out faintly beyond the trees is the Anthony Chapel.
E. Fay Jones designed this glass masterpieces with the help of his partner Maurice Jennings. Jones also created two earlier chapels in his home state. He was an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright. He too was respected and was inspired by nature and the site’s surroundings. It is evident in his choice and use of materials – pine columns and trusses, flagstone floors, glass. The trusses that are nearly 60’ above, interlock and cross one another reminiscent of the surrounding canopy of trees. Glass is set between the structure giving opportunity to enjoy and still experience the landscape beyond. Every detailed was discerned. All the technical and electrical elements are hidden from view.
The tranquility and the transition from inside to outside is captivating. The sounds of the birds, the rain from a recent storm and waterfall beyond made it even more magical and inspiring.
Security said no to any drone footage. They were imposing (guns, bulletproof vests) but were kind and knowledgeable!
What a stunning piece of craftsmanship in the midst of nature designed!
